Comments, Please!

So, I've been wondering what fellow Evertonians think about Kevin Mirallas and Steven Naismith, our two new wingers.  Please comment and tell me what you think about our new additions to our squad!

Arsenal 1 Everton 1: Match Review

I'm not sure whether to be disappointed or not with the result of Wednesday's game against Arsenal.  Sure, it's always nice to at least tie a tough opponent, but I, like David Moyes, feel that a tie was the least we deserved from the game.  Theo Walcott scored against the Blues in under a minute, put Fellaini equalized, and we had enough chances to feel that we deserved a win.  We were also denied a penalty which, according to the Evertonians on Facebook, was a clear foul on Steven Pienaar.
Although we tied, there are still some troubling aspects of the game:
1.  Fellaini:  With rumors still flying around about him leaving in January, we can only hope he stays with Everton.  We need him.
2.  Baines:  David Moyes admitted that our left-back could miss out on the game against Manchester City due to injury.
3.  Kevin Mirallas was forced to miss the game against Arsenal due to injury sustained playing Sunderland.  Will he be back for the City game?

Steven Pienaar assured fans that Everton are full of confidence for the game against Manchester City.  I know we can win.  COYB!

Arsenal vs Everton Tomorrow

Wednesday, November the 28, Everton plays Arsenal.  Fortunately, we'll have Fellaini back.  Nothing left to do but wait and see....Naismith has been in fine form, and hopefully Jelavic will unleash his killer first touches.  Oviedo can really help out if we need him, and Jagielka is enjoying his skipper duties.  Watch for Hitzlsperger to make an impression as well! Everton vs Norwich City Ends in Draw

Everton's recent game against Norwich City disappointingly ended in a draw.  Norwich City has been in good form recently, flying high after defeating Manchester United 1-0.  Earlier in the season they had defeated Arsenal 1-0.  With Norwich's addition of Robert Snodgrass from Leeds United to their squad, The Canaries are looking more and more dangerous.
Kevin Mirallas for Everton was unable to play due to injury, and Steven Naismith started once again.  Phil Neville is still recuperating from leg surgery, and thus the Costa Rica International Bryan Oviedo got his first league start.
The game started out well enough.  Steven Naismith scored in the 11 minute, putting Everton in the lead.  However, the rest of the half passed without incident.  That was Naismith's third league goal, following goals against Liverpool and Reading.  Bryan Oviedo made the assist, giving the team a rush of encouragement:  We have some new young talent in the midfield.
The second half drug out, and Everton looked destined for a 1-0 win.  However, Norwich City equalised with a last gasp header that Tim Howard was helpless to keep out.  Although Everton tied, The Toffeemen remain solid in fifth place.  Many good things came out of this game as well:  Steven Naismith is increasingly becoming more dangerous, and Bryan Oviedo has shown that he can compete in the Premier League.  The only things that worry me are Kevin Mirallas's nagging injury, and Nikica Jelavic's shortage of goals this season as compared to last season.  However, I don't believe we really have anything to worry about to get in our way of Europa League or Champion's League qualification.  Come on You Blues! Reading 2-1 Everton

Well, Everton lost to Reading.  Adding insult to injury, it was Reading's first win of the season.  Here are my thoughts on the match:
Steven Naismith did great.  Let's face it:  He may not be as good a dribbler or assist maker as Kevin Mirallas, but he's pretty dang good at being in the right place at the right time.  He scored, and almost got a penalty kick to boot.
Nikica Jelavic hasn't been quite as productive this season as last, but he has a solid number of goals, and will undoubtedly score more this season.  He made a key pass, which opened up the game for Everton.
Fellaini made the assist, bringing the ball down with his chest, as he is so apt to do.  We really need to keep him if at all possible.
Thomas Hitzlsperger got his first start, and did good.  Perhaps if we are forced to sell Fellaini, we could permanently sign Hitzlsperger.
We have a strong, creative midfield, so we definitely should have scored more on Reading.  We just need to penetrate more, and take more chances.  Come on boys, COYB.

Kevin Mirallas will miss the trip to Reading

Kevin Mirallas will miss the game against Reading this Saturday.  Picking up an apparent hamstring injury against Sunderland, the Belgium International winger should be back in action for the next game.  Steven Naismith will play instead of Mirallas.  Naismith is not as good a dribbler as Mirallas, and doesn't pressure the opposition as much, but is a great poacher, moving into open space for shots and crosses.  If he passes like he did to Fellaini at Fullham, he will be a great asset.
So, Everton's attack has taken a hit for this game, but Naismith is a solid defensive player, and will likely cause headaches for Reading by popping up whenever least expected and wanted.

Please Stay, Fellaini!

With the transfer market in January looming ever closer, it seems inevitable that someone will make a big power-play to get Fellaini from our roster.  But don't lose hope!  Chelsea is reported to be planning to offer 30 million GPB for Fellaini.  Everton could do a lot with that kind of money.
So, who do you guys think we should sign to take the sting out of losing Felli?  Here's what I think:  Without Fellaini, our midfield will be talented, but short, with no real big players.  We need someone that can body through people like Fellaini.  Fellaini is one of our few players that can body his way through people and collect long crosses.  A big physical presence, and good heading ability will be vital for our replacement.  While not selling Fellaini would be ideal, it may not be possible, if Fellaini decides to jump ship.  Thus, someone like Kevin Doyle or Peter Crouch would be great to complement Nikica Jelavic.  Maybe we could sign a quality young right back player to be a back-up for Tony Hibbert with the leftover money.
So anyways, here's to hoping Fellaini stays with us a few more years, but who do you guys think would be a good replacement just in case?

Osman and Baines called up to England

Well guys, our midfield maestro Leon Osman has earned his first England international appearance.  At 31 years of age, after seasons of solid performances for Everton, I think it's a bit past due.  Together with Leighton Baines, Everton left fullback, Osman and England took on Sweden  on Wednesday, November 14.  Osman forced Sweden's goalkeeper to save a shot early on in the game, but it unfortunately wasn't enough as the Three Lions lost 4 to 2, thanks to four goals from Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Paris Saint-Germain star.
The outcome puts more doubt on England's ability to perform in international soccer, but with Everton players like Jagielka, Baines, and Osman getting more playing time, maybe the Three Lions will rise in the ranks of international teams.  At any rate, it gives us Evertonians some bragging rights, since we now feature at least three English Internationals!  Come on You Blues!
