2013-2014 Season

Sorry for the long absence, everyone.  Finally, the best Everton blog on the web is back in action!  Hopefully, I'll be able to start putting full match reports back on here, but in the meantime, here's the latest transfer news rumors concerning Goodison Park:

Romelu Lukaku admits he would be willing to stay at Everton if the club can qualify for the UEFA Champion's League.

Man Utd. are allegedly prepared to offer Wilfried Zaha adnd 14 million for Leighton Baines.

Johnny Heitinga is rumored to be on the list to be sold when the transfer window opens back up.

Once again, sorry for the long absence.  Have a great day, everyone!

America beats Germany 4-3!

Germany gave us a scare, that's for sure.....Clint Dempsey scored twice to make it 4-1 late on, but two German goals came close to forcing a draw.  Fortunately, America has beaten one of the most powerful soccer countries on earth!

Half Time Update----USA vs Germany

Excitement abounds here at RFK Stadium!  Altidore's fantastic volley from a Zusi cross opened up the scoring, before Germany's back-up keeper made a horrible mistake......A defender passed the ball back for the keeper to, inexplicably, simply watch and allow to roll slowly into his net!
Germany has had their share of chances, however.  Per Mertesacker missed from close range, Podolski skied a ball inside the eighteen, and Klose scored, but was denied by the linesman.  Keep it up, America!

Leon Osman Signs New Deal

Midfielder Leon Osman has just signed a new deal that will keep him at Goodison Park until the end of 2015.  The face alleviates a lot of stress placed on the team, as the prolific midfielder had hinted at refusing a contract renewal.  Keep it up, Toffees!

End of Season

Sorry for the lack of post, fellows, hopefully I'll rectify that with some transfer rumors in the future.  Well, the end of the season is upon us....we end in sixth place, losing out on Europa Qualification to Wigan......sigh...
Leighton Baines was voted the Everton player of the season, while unofficial polls have placed Nikica Jelavic at the opposite end of the spectrum...

An early exit from the FA Cup wasn't ideal, but Everton, for the second year in a row, finished one spot above Liverpool.  Everton's search for a new manager will no doubt stir the waters of the team, and result only in a better season next year!  COYB!

Everton Down Fullham

Steven Pienaar's lone strike ensured the Toffee's a 1 to 0 win over Fullham.  A rather uneventful game besides that, but transfer rumors abound concerning the likes of manager David Moyes, midfielder Leon Osman, and Captain Phil Neville.

Transfer Rumors

Well well well......Neil Lennon is rumored to replace David Moyes as Everton's Manager?  Retaining Moyes is still top priority, but Celtic Glasgow manager Neil Lennon could be a fine replacement if Moyes refuses to extend his contract.

Phil Neville has announced this is his last Merseyside season, and the skipper will surely be missed.  Stoke City are in the race to snatch the defender up.

Jonathan Dos Santos, the 22 year old Mexican international is struggling to play at Barcelona, and is looking more and more like he could come to the Premier League.  West Ham and Everton are both in the race to sign the midfielder.

Everton 2-2 Tottenham

Tottenham scored in under a minute thanks to Adebayore, but Everton bounced back quickly.  Phil Jagielka headed home off a corner kick, equalizing the two teams.  Kevin Mirallas scored a goal with a wonderful solo effort, which appeared to seal the deal, but Siggurdson managed to score, giving Tottenham a share of the spoils.  COYB!

Everton Continue European Hunt

Everton are getting closer and closer to Champion's League Qualifications.  A top-form Kevin Mirallas is leading the charge for the Toffees while Nikica Jelavic slowly gets back in form with each game.  Thanks to +Ben Lane for cheering for Everton Football Club.  COYB!

Everton on the Hunt

Thanks to a first-half goal from Kevin Mirallas, Everton continue their Champion's League Qualification Quest.  Tim Howard, returning from injury, punched a ball to safety, which Kevin Mirallas picked up punished the opposition with, after a near full-field run!  Nikica Jelavic came close to scoring with a fantastic free kick, but curled the ball just wide.  COYB!

Nikica Jelavic and Jan Mucha

Nikica Jelavic.....when signed last year, he quickly became Everton's leading scorer.  A strong shot, a lethal first touch, and a predator instinct all helped the Croatian rise to the top.  However, the Hitman's form hasn't been near as good this year.....why?
The second year for a striker is hard....demands from last year, plus a defense that's figured you out compile to make the job harder.  But with the Manchester City wonder-goal, I'd say there's no doubt we've witnessed the rebirth of Nikica Jelavic.
Jan Mucha did a fantastic job against City in Tim Howard's absence.  A clean sheet against the defending champion's is nothing to sneeze at!  COYB!

Everton Defeat Manchester City!

Everton are closer to Champion's League Qualifications!  A perfectly legitimate goal from Kevin Mirallas was disallowed due to a supposed off-sides ruling, but midfielder Leon Osman came to the rescue.  His bending shot started on one side of Joe Hart and ended on the other.  Nikica Jelavic was subbed in near the ninetieth minute, ready to regain his starting position.  Fellaini passed a perfect ball to Jelavic during stoppage time for.......Jelavic!  The Croatian Hitman finally scores again!  We are back in action!  COYB!

Everton Prevail!

Everton secured a comfortable win against Oldham Athletic, winning 3 to 1.  Mirallas scored the opening goal, a calm finish that was slotted right past the keeper.  Baines was able to successfully convert a penalty kick, and Leon Osman headed in for three.
With the result of this game, Everton will be confident heading into their next match.  Kevin Mirallas has shown he has the potential to be a powerful player, and Baines and Osman continue their dream season.  COYB!

Loss to Manchester United....and what the @$%@! happened to Jelavic!?

Well, a saddening 2-0 loss to Manchester United deprived our boys of the glory of two wins this season against the current first-place team in the Barclay's Premier League.  Fellaini scored with a header off a Leighton Baine's corner-kick the first go-around, leading Everton to a one nil victory.  This time, however, their would be no glory for the big Belgium.
Ryan Giggs and Robin van Persie each scored against the Toffees, leading Man U to a comfortable victory over the high-flying Merseyside outfit.  Even Kevin Mirallas, back from injury, couldn't help Everton.
Even more disturbingly, Nikica Jelavic has been less than lethal the last few games, even losing his starting position to Victor Anichebe for Sunday's game against Manchester United.  The Croatian's form has a drastic effect on Everton's Champion's League hopes, and will need to be back in top form soon.
Meanwhile, Victor Anichebe has put a few goals in, and Kevin Mirallas continues to be an attacking threat.  Steven Naismith assures fans we have not yet seen him at his full powers, still, the Scot has put a few goals in  for Everton from the the right winger position, and represents a solid back-up for Kevin Mirallas, and even a fine starter.  Champion's League qualifications, or at the very least Europa League qualifications, seem imminent.  COYB!

Everton scoop up John Stones

Everton refused to pay 20 million pounds for Alvaro Negredo of Sevilla, signing instead the 19 year old John Stones of Barnsely for a five year contract.  COYB!

Everton 2, West Brom 1

Thanks to a vicious strike from Baines, followed by a successful penalty kick from the lethal left-wingback, Everton managed to get three points from the game at Goodison Park against West Bromwich Albion.  A consolation from West Brom couldn't quite keep the game within their reach, thanks to Leighton Baine's brace.
Everton are considering a 9 million pound transfer day deadline deal for Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo.  Hope it works out!  COYB!

Everton vs West Bromwich Albion...and Leroy Fer?

Everton will play West Bromwich Albion today.  Everton is also prepared to pull out of the 8.6 million pound deal for FC Twente midfielder Leroy Fer.  The 23 year old midfielder would greatly bolster the Toffee's squad, but a medical scan revealed a problem with the Dutch International's knee.  Everton are attempting to renegotiate the deal.  Hopefully, Twente and the Blues will come to a satisfactory agreement....COYB!

Transfer Rumor Update

Everton 0-0 Southampton

Everton played the former Championship club Southampton Monday, with a rather disappointing result.  Most of the Blue's fans anticipated a win, however, the actual performance saw a less than confidence Nikica Jelavic leave the field for Kevin Mirallas.  The Belgium striker and Greek Super League top scorer in the 2011-2012 season threatened the goal several times, and almost scored with a vicious volley attempt.  Victor Anichebe tested Boruc on more than one occasion, while Tim Howard did well to keep Rickie Lambert from scoring.
While it was unexpected, the draw does have several good points.....Kevin Mirallas may very well be back in action, which can mean the difference between the Champion's League and the Europa League.  Victor Anichebe may very well start next game as well, in place of the Croatian striker Nikica Jelavic.  COYB!

Transfer Rumors

Rumors are floating around concerning Everton's potential purchase of a 10 million pound French Midfielder.  Stay tuned for more updates!

Everton Vs. Southampton Preview

Everton will play Southampton Saints Sunday.  Southampton are flying high after coming back to draw Chelsea 2-2 after going down 2-0 at halftime thanks to goals from Ba and Eden Hazard.  Everton are still chasing fourth place, and Champion's League qualifications.  Sunday should bring us three points....My bet?  Everton 2-0 Southampton, goals from Fellaini and Jelavic.  COYB!

Unambitious Swansea

Everton tied 0-0 against the Welsh club Swansea.  The thoroughly unambitious club crowded in the defensive players, rarely attacking, relying on occasionally attacks from players such as Michu.  Everton dominated possession, shots, and nearly every other stat, but were unable to break Swansea's defensive shield.  The unsatisfying game ended in a goalless draw, but at least we gained a point!  COYB!

Everton Thrashes Cheltenham

A thrilling win!  The evil side of Merseyside, Liverpool, barely scraped by with a 2-1 win over Mansfield, whilst Everton breezed past Cheltenham 5-1.  Nikica Jelavic poked in the first, followed by a Leighton Baines penalty.  Leon Osman scored the third, after which Cheltenham scored.  Seamus Coleman scored with a lofted shot before Fellaini put in the fifth.
This game has me excited!  Nikica Jelavic has scored again!  While some might say he's had a dip in form from last year, he constantly threatens the opposition's goal.  He provided an assist for Victor Anichebe not long ago, and was unlucky not to score after striking the woodwork twice when playing Chelsea.  But he's back!  Hopefully this goal against Cheltenham will mark a loonnngg string of goals from the Croatian Hitman!  COYB!

Fellaini Rules Out Early Everton Exit

In an interview, Fellaini ruled out an early Everton exit, claiming he would stay until the end of his contract, 2016, if that was what the club wanted.  I know that's what I want!  The Belgium was able to play against Newcastle United after serving his 3 match sentence.  During the game, he almost scored, and once again provided a solid play-making performance.  COYB!

Everton 2, Newcastle 1

What a marvelous game!  Newcastle took the lead early in the first half through a Cisse goal, but Leighton Baines equalized later in the half with a thunderous free kick.  In the second half, Jelavic crossed the ball to Victor Anichebe, who pushed the ball past Krull for the winner.
Everton were helped by the return of Fellaini, while Newcastle will be diminished by the loss of Ba to Stamford Bridge this January.  Ba will be moving to Chelsea.
Victor Anichebe praised Leighton Baines as being the Premier League's best free kick taker.  And he may be right!  COYB!

Everton 1-Chelsea 2

A dynamic game, full of excitement!  The London club Chelsea were given a run for their money, but in the end, David Moye's men just couldn't get by with the win they deserved.
Attempting to compensate for the absence of Fellaini, Everton played a more attack oriented formation, with Nikica Jelavic and Victor Anichebe in front as strikers, Leon Osman, Thomas Hitzlsperger, Steven Naismith, and Steven Pienaar in the midfield.
Steven Pienaar fired home in the second minute, drilling a low ball past Cech.  A Nikica Jelavic free kick hit the post with the stranded Cech watching in horror.  Three minutes before half-time, Frank Lampard headed home for the visitors, bringing the score level.
Nikica Jelavic's header bounced of the crossbar in the second half, before Frank Lampard exploited a mistake in the back to score again for Chelsea.  Everton just couldn't equalize before the final whistle.
Everton have been in fine form, winning two and losing one of their three games without Fellaini.  Champions League Qualifications are in sight!  COYB!
